Hear from a Healthy Weight Hero

After a painful condition disrupted her running routine, Jackie turned to the Beezee programme and BetterPoints for support to lose weight, stay motivated, and gradually return to an active lifestyle. Here is what she had to say:
How did you find out about the Beezee programme and why did you choose to get involved?
"I discovered the Beezee programme through BetterPoints, which I read about in a Council newsletter.
Around two years ago, I developed plantar fasciitis. I was a regular runner at the time, but the pain gradually worsened and eventually forced me to stop. Unfortunately, my runner’s appetite didn’t stop, so I ended up gaining weight.
I signed up to Beezee to help me get back to a healthier weight. It’s been particularly useful on the nutrition side, as it’s helped me focus on portion control and be more mindful of my sugar and salt intake. The Beezee rewards were a real bonus and kept me motivated, especially when I wasn’t sure about attending some of the sessions.
I’ve since lost weight and am now gently building up my physical activity levels in a way that helps me manage the pain. The biggest benefit has been getting me back into good habits and encouraging new ones.
Why did you sign up to BetterPoints Oxfordshire in the first place?
I really liked the sound of it. I was already using Strava to record my activities, but BetterPoints provided extra motivation through rewards. I also enjoy receiving updates on milestones, such as reaching 150 minutes of physical activity in a week.
I mainly use my points towards my food shop and at B&Q for things related to my new business.
Has the app had an influence on any other behaviour?
I cycle much more now. Unless it’s raining heavily, I’ll use my bike for any short journey. It’s also made me realise how much I can save on petrol.
I’ve also started going to my local gym and earning rewards for taking part in Sport in Mind activity sessions. Afterwards, I’ll often spend some time in the onsite Yellow Submarine Café and enjoy a free hot drink using my BetterPoints."
